Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Monday asked Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, a faction of ruling alliance, and the minister for information Hasanul Haq Inu to play a new card discarding the old one in politics.
BNP also slammed the assault on teachers of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology reportedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League men, terming it a shameful incident.
BNP spokesman, Asaduzzaman Ripon, in a news briefing at the party’s central office, came up with the remarks while he swiped on Inu responding to the minister’s remarks against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia a day earlier.
He said BNP’s advice to Inu is that the old card that the JSD leader has been playing would no more work in politics and he has to play a new card.
Ripon said ‘Inu thinks always speaking against BNP would protect his office of minister. When survival to his office becomes vulnerable, Inu makes more derogatory remarks against Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman.’
Ripon said ‘Inu was suffering from nervous syndrome.’
He said Inu recently fell into an embarrassing situation and remained silent for few days when the ruling Awami League leaders voiced against JSD’s role during 1972-75 that created ground for assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He alleged that Inu, his party and Ganobahini made situations unstable by committing various killings and crimes during the regime of Sheikh Mujib.
He said if Zia would not offer general mercy to Inu then he would have been tried.
Asked about assaulting teachers of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology allegedly by Chhatra League men, Ripon said this is a very much shameful incident and BNP strongly condemns it.
He said ‘the incident of attack on teachers is nothing new for BCL, they have been flexing their muscles in all educational institutions across the country and assaulting teachers for long.’
