Govt obstructs BNP’s founding anniversary celebration: BNP

Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Monday alleged that the government is obstructing the celebration the party’s founding anniversary at most of the districts and upazilas across the country.
BNP would celebrate its 37th founding anniversary on Tuesday amid government’s obstructions, said party spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon.
In a news briefing at the party’s central office he claimed that the law enforcers and the ruling party men are obstructing the celebration in about 50 districts and 450 upazilas.
He said in many places, BNP activists were beaten up by law enforcers and ruling party men during pasting posters of the founding anniversary and even obstructed making ready balloons for the founding anniversary.
He alleged that members of law enforcers this morning vandalised a canopy of pro-BNP cultural organisation Zia Sangskritik Sangathan at the graveside of late president Ziaur Rahman where they were scheduled to hold a voluntary blood donation programme, he said.
BNP would hold discussion at Diploma Engineers Institution in the city at 3:00pm Tuesday to mark the founding anniversary, he added.
The party’s district and metropolitan city units would also celebrate the anniversary holding different programmes according to their conveniences, he said.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia along with the party’s leaders and activists would place floral wreaths and offer fateha at the graveside of Zia at Shere-e-Bangla Nagar in the city at 10:00 am Tuesday.
The party leaders said that this time BNP is faces main challenge of re-organising the party for launching fresh anti-government movement to restore democracy.
