President congratulates residents of enclaves

President Abdul Hamid congratulated the residents of 162 enclaves, turning to be Bangladeshi and Indian citizens, following exchange of the enclaves at 12.01 am today as per the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA), reports Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
In a congratulatory message, the president said the exchange of the enclaves after the solution to 68-year-old land boundary dispute is historic moment for Bangladesh and India, president’s press sectary Joynal Abedin told BSS.
The president also congratulated prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on this historic moment.
The noble gesture that began with the singing of Indira-Mujib Agreement in 1974 to demarcate the land boundary has been implemented at the initiative of Bangladesh and India in 2015, he said.
Abdul Hamid said the long cherished dreams of the enclaves’ people have been fulfilled through exchanging of these.
Side by side with ensuring their nationality and identity, it will have an impact on the socio-economic development of the residents of the enclave, he added.
The president also thanked those who were involved in the swap processing.
