A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on Tuesday placed the two accused on eight days’ police interrogation each in the murder case of online activist Oyasiqur Rahman.
Metropolitan magistrate Md Yunus Khan passed the order while Tejgaon industrial area police inspector Mizanur Rahman, also the investigation officer, produced Jikrullah, and Ariful Islam before the court.
He also sought a 10-day interrogation for each under police custody.
Oyasiqur was hacked to death in the capital’s Tejgaon industrial area on Monday morning for what the assailants claimed his ‘anti-religion’ and ‘anti-Islamic’ write-ups on social media.
Three assailants, all madrassah students, attacked him on his way to work and struck him repeatedly with machetes before a dumbstruck crowd of pedestrians leaving him dead on the spot.
Locals caught Jikrullah and Ariful and handed them over to police while the third one named Abu Taher fled the scene.
During the hearing, Jikrullah said that they only were present on the spot during the killing and it was Abu Taher who hacked Oyasiqur to death.
Masum was the mastermind of the killing, he added.
